Music, vendors selling food and crafts, beer for 21+, fall themed activities like pumpkin carving and decorating. Other cities do downtown trick o' treating, so maybe kids could dress up and the actual trick o' treating could be contained to the Common, showing a Halloween movie or short films (family friendly, if possible!) later in the evening.

My husband and I would really enjoy something like this, that's not far from home.

I think having the kids trick or treat in the common during family activities is a great idea! I'd bring my kids!
