COMMENT: Let them park!!

Please let these entrepreneurs have the freedom to give it a try! Worcester needs to have a chance to encourage foot traffic foot traffic. More people out and about will only help other businesses grow and prosper. Look at the turn out at the annual food truck fest on Park Ave. After I went last year saw several people wander into That’s Entertainment and the bars down the street (myself included).

This pilot plan is a step in the right direction, but only 2 days a week? I personally try to get some food in me a few times a day! And to only allow them to operate 11-9pm? How can a business show how well it can do 7 days a week and potentially 24 hours a day when it does not allow them to be open for 148 of the hours in a week? Granted not many trucks want to be open at 4 AM but a sausage Thursday night at 2:15AM or a coffee and a pastry on Monday morning at 7 AM are 2 of my favorite meals that I will never eat at home.

I am not encouraging the lift of all restrictions. Actual restaurants that pay property taxes should not be hindered by these mobile food dispensers, but there are ample locations that will not impact restaurants and some that may even help the local bars and businesses. Like the new 3 Cross inviting the DogFather on down to feed their patrons.

These are relatively inexpensive start-up companies to get going. If they were able to get going and have a place to sell their product they could pop up in the numbers of Fro-yo places that came into town a couple of years ago. No they all won’t make it, but at least they won’t leave another empty storefront on Main St. when they close.
